| | blah | ] | I bit the bullet and went clothes shopping yesterday. Amazingly, I had some success.
Two pairs of capris, four pairs of shorts, a cute brown cotton shrug, and some undies because I needed new undies.
I couldn't find any dresses or skirts I liked. Too much un-fitted crap out there that looks like muumuus, with evil plastic beads around the neck or cuffs. Because for some reason they think fat ladies want to wear giant schmattes of polyester georgette encrusted with cheap bling.
I also found a really nice blue glitter nail polish but then I saw it was endorsed by the Kartrashians so I wasn't about to give THEM any money. I'll just splurge on a new bottle of Ciel de Nuit once I convince Chanel to BRING THAT SHIT BACK ALREADY. It's the only polish I ever actually used up completely, ugh. So pretty. |

I enjoy shopping in boutiques, antique and second hand stores (my faves!) and at garage and jumble sales. I do NOT like clothes shopping or grocery shopping. I love full, flowy gauzy or tiered skirts with a lot of material. Maybe it's echos from childhood in the fifties or being a hippie in the early seventies. But fashion goes through these cycles and sometimes they get hard to find. So when I find one I like I HANG ON TO IT. There's one skirt in my closet I've had since 1994. I kid you not. I know how old it is because I found it and bought it to wear to my dad's wake. And I STILL wear it. Oh and jean dresses. Not skirts; dresses. I have a couple of those too with the cutesie embroidery. Would love to find one with a bib top. I'd be in hog heaven.
I still have t shirts from concerts I saw in 1992. My favorite of that era is a shirt from a conference on parity and sexual harassment that says ANITA HILL on it. :) I met her that weekend along with a bunch of other feminist icons (I had to help Bella Abzug's assistant chase her down, that woman could putter off even at her advanced age!).
I have a skirt I got in 1988 that I cannot bear to get rid of because the fabric is so awesome. It has little currier&ives looking ice skating couples all over it. | |
